The state of technology in manufacturing

Manufacturing generates enormous volumes of operational data and uses remarkably little of it. Machine controllers, SCADA systems and quality stations produce continuous signal, most of which is retained locally, examined only when something breaks, and never reaches the ERP where planning decisions are actually made.

The gap is architectural. OT and IT networks were deliberately separated for good safety and security reasons, and bridging them requires care rather than enthusiasm. Done carelessly, it introduces safety risk; done well, it turns reactive maintenance into predictive maintenance and turns quality inspection into quality prediction.

The organisations getting value here aren't the ones with the most sensors. They're the ones who connected a small number of high-value signals to a decision somebody actually makes.

Can you work with our existing SCADA and PLC systems?

Yes — we integrate through standard industrial protocols and gateways rather than requiring control system replacement. The control layer stays as it is; we build the data path outward from it.

How do you avoid introducing risk to production control?

Data paths from OT to IT are read-only and network-segmented by design. Nothing we build writes back into control systems without explicit, separately-reviewed justification.

What's a realistic first project?

Usually a single high-value line or asset class — connect the signal, prove the prediction, quantify the avoided downtime, then expand. Plant-wide programmes that start everywhere tend to finish nowhere.
