Software Engineering

Software built for the systems you'll still be running in five years.

TechKTM builds custom applications, platforms and APIs for organisations that need software to work reliably at scale — and to remain maintainable long after the initial delivery team has moved on.

The cost of software that was never engineered

Most enterprise software problems are architecture problems that surfaced late. A system built for a hundred users meets ten thousand. An integration built as a one-off becomes load-bearing. A codebase with no test coverage becomes a codebase nobody dares change, and delivery velocity collapses.

The commercial consequence is predictable: every new feature costs more than the last one. Teams spend more time working around the system than working in it, and the business starts routing around IT entirely.

We engineer for the second and third year of a system's life, not just the launch. That means architecture proportionate to actual requirements, meaningful test coverage, and code your own engineers can pick up without an archaeology expedition.

How we approach software engineering

01

Architecture before implementation

We design the system to the requirements it genuinely has — not the most fashionable pattern, and not a distributed architecture for a problem that doesn't need one. Simplicity that survives contact with scale beats sophistication that doesn't.

02

API-first construction

Clean, versioned, documented interfaces between components, so systems can be extended and integrated without invasive rework. This is what makes the difference between a platform and a monolith with good intentions.

03

Senior-led delivery

The architects who design your system stay on it through go-live. You don't get a senior team at the pitch and a junior team in delivery.

04

Testing and CI/CD from day one

Automated pipelines, meaningful test coverage at the boundaries that matter, and deployments that are routine rather than events.

05

Handover as a first-class deliverable

Documentation, architecture decision records, and enablement so your team owns the system fully. We measure success partly by how little you need us afterwards.

What you get

Every engagement is scoped to what you actually need. These are the deliverables that typically make up a software engineering programme.

  • Technical architecture and system design documentation
  • Custom applications, platforms and internal tooling
  • Versioned, documented APIs and integration layers
  • Automated test suites and CI/CD pipelines
  • Infrastructure-as-code for reproducible environments
  • Architecture decision records and technical handover

What changes for the business

Delivery velocity stops degrading over time. New features cost roughly what the last ones cost. Onboarding a new engineer takes days rather than months. And when the business asks for something the original design didn't anticipate, the answer is a timeline rather than a rewrite.

Software Engineering: common questions

Do you work with our existing engineering team?

Frequently, yes. Embedded delivery alongside your engineers is often the better model — it transfers capability as we build. We also run fully independent delivery where that fits better.

What technologies do you build with?

Predominantly TypeScript, Python, Java and .NET on the application side, with React and Next.js on the front end, deployed to AWS, Azure or GCP. Where you have an established stack, we work within it rather than importing our preferences.

Can you take over an existing codebase?

Yes. We start with an assessment of the current state — architecture, test coverage, dependency health, security posture — and give you an honest read on whether to extend, refactor or replace, with the reasoning behind it.

How do you price engagements?

Fixed-scope pricing where requirements are genuinely well-defined, and time-and-materials with capped budgets where discovery is part of the work. We'll tell you which one your project actually is.
